A deep depression is coming over Bengal! Heavy rain with gusty winds, will continue till 25th — Weather Update

Kolkata: The India Meteorological Department said on Tuesday that heavy rainfall may occur in West Bengal till August 25 due to the incessant humidity from the Bay of Bengal and the flow of monsoon towards the state. The cyclone, originating from a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, turned into a deep depression before it hit the ground near Gopalpur in Odisha on Tuesday morning.

Although it is expected to gradually weaken and become a low pressure, the Meteorological Office has warned that heavy thunderstorms and heavy rains are likely to occur in large parts of West Bengal this week. An official of Alipore Regional Meteorological Center said that there is a possibility of lightning with moderate to heavy rains in Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura and Murshidabad for the next two days.

According to the forecast (Weather Update), Kolkata, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, East Burdwan, Bankura and Jhargram districts are likely to have thunderstorms and thunderstorms. Heavy rainfall is likely in some districts of South Bengal till 25th August, while districts of North Bengal including Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar are also likely.

Heavy rains are likely in Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong and Alipurduar between Wednesday to Friday. IMD (Weather Update) has warned of rough sea conditions on the coast of Odisha and South Bengal, urging fishermen not to go into the deep sea until Friday.

South 24 Parganas are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Thursday, while North 24 Parganas, East Medinipur, East Burdwan, Murshidabad and Nadia are likely to receive heavy rains on Friday. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature in Kolkata was recorded at 26.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which is slightly higher than normal, while the highest temperature was 32 degrees Celsius on Monday.
