Swiggy: If you order in Swiggy, it’s a big blow! Now you have to pay extra money

Kolkata: Swiggy, the main food supply company, has once again increased the platform fee for food supply orders, now it is Rs 2. Referring to the increase in customer transactions during the festive season, the organization has increased the fee from Tk 12 to Tk 14 to capitalize on the demand for the festival.

The food supply platform has been continuously increasing fees. Swiggy’s fee increased from Tk 2 in April 2023 to Tk 6 in July 2024 and Tk 10 in October 2024. The current fee of Rs 14 has increased by 600 percent in just over two years.

Swiggy processes more than 20 lakh orders per day and at the current platform fee level, it earns billions of rupees per day. The company has not yet responded to the increased platform fees.

In the June quarter (first quarter of FY26) Swiggy has a net loss of Rs 1,197 crore, according to the stock exchange filing of Rs 611 crore in the same period of the previous year (FY25). The Bangalore-based company made a net loss of Rs 1,081 crore in the previous quarter (Q4 FY25) on a quarterly basis (QoQ). The growing losses are mainly due to its Quick Commerce Department, Instamart, where financial pressure has increased sharply.

Zomato and Swiggy (Swiggy) have tested high platform fees on high demand days before. If the order quantity is not affected, they have maintained the new fee structure. Companies are consistently facing criticism for failing to improve the condition of the employees despite multiple fee increases for consumers.
